Safety commission issues recall on abdominal exercise straps

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on Harbinger Fitness Ab Strap (Style #371100) due to a faulty buckle that may lead to injury for users.

The 17.5-inch long Ab Straps have caused two injuries so far, resulting in lacerations to the users' head and neck as a result of falling.

The straps are made of nylon webbing and have padded arm slings in which the consumer is supposed to place their arms while lifting themselves to do abdominal exercises. The outer side of the device is labeled 'Harbinger' and the Universal Product Code (UPC) that appears on the bottom flap of the packaging of affected Ab Straps is 0075151096.

An estimated 4,169 units of the product were sold through websites like Bodybuilding.com and Amazon.com. The straps were also available at Second Wind Fitness, Play It Again Sports and Advantis Nutrition as well as other sporting goods and fitness shops from August 2006 through April 2011.

Consumers who purchased the product should call Harbinger Fitness at (800) 729-5954 for information on returning the straps for a replacement.
