The Las Vegas Sun recently reported that United Fighting Championship (UFC) matches have become even more popular than boxing, at least in terms of how many people bet on the fights.
Mike Colbert is the sports book director for Cantor Gaming - an organization that handles the books for venues like The M, Hard Rock, The Cosmopolitan and Tropicana - and told the news source that the number of bets being placed on UFC battles are about four times higher than those of boxing matches.
“You’re talking to an absolute boxing guy here, and I will be the first to admit that UFC is more popular betting-wise,” Colbert said, quoted by the news provider. “I never thought I’d see the day where it’s this popular.”
An MSNBC article previously reported that UFC has become the "undisputed champ" in the field of mixed martial arts that has increasingly dominated the competition with each year of its existence.
Writer David Sweet reported in the piece that UFC matches often sell out 13,300-seat venues like the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Considering the average price of a ticket is about $250, it goes to show that fans really do love their UFC.
