UFC 132: Tito Ortiz and Dominick Cruz on top of their game

Irrespective of holiday weekend plans, UFC nation was tuned in Saturday evening, July 2nd, to watch the United Fighting Championship (UFC) 132 showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The first match was between Tito Ortiz, 36, and the heavyweight favored contender, Ryan Bader, 28. The second and main event of the evening was between bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, 26, and Urijah Faber, 32.

The first fight, the UFC light-heavyweight mixed martial arts match, featured Tito Ortiz, the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy," on a mission to build back his reputation as a top contender. His statistics had fallen in recent years due to health setbacks, but he prevailed this time.

"You gotta understand, I'm healthy now," said Ortiz, quoted by Fox News. He was referring to a series of injuries and surgeries he's had to deal with over the past few years. "I've got a hunger to be at the top again."

A closer match was found during the main event that evening with five nail-biting rounds between Cruz and Faber. "Cruz's overall quickness and ability to avoid a majority of Faber's combinations ultimately led to his victory," according to the news source.

UFC 133 between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis is scheduled to take place on August 6th in Philadelphia.
