Deciding to get ripped is a commitment, and it takes constant hard work to keep it up. Of course, things can happen in life that can make it impossible to workout, but there's no need to panic just yet if there's too much happening to hit the gym. The Huffington Post spoke to a fitness expert about what happens to the body when a workout routine needs to be put on pause for a bit.
According to fitness professional Jill Brown, who spoke to the news provider, there have been multiple studies done that show if a person has been training hard then the body will keep muscle mass longer.
"Basically, if you've been training like an athlete for a while, you lose your muscle tone and definition more slowly than if you have just started your fitness routine on your last birthday after 10 years of jockeying your La-Z-Boy," said Brown.
According to Men's Fittness, working out too much, eating too little, not drinking protein shakes and not getting enough rest can cause a person to lose muscle. Missing the gym for a few days won't destroy all the hard work a person's done to be fit.
