Protein could be one of the secrets of looking like Superman

For decades people have been trying to get ripped like Superman. Now, the new series based on the action hero is being filmed, and star Henry Cavill shared with Total Film magazine his workout routine to become one of America's greatest fictional characters.

The actor says it took a combination of working out and eating right to get him into superhero shape.

“I’m on 5,000 calories a day… You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs…you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman," Cavill told Total Film

Cavill's diet and routine is surprisingly similar to that of Christopher Reeve's when he donned the famous red and blue suit in 1979. Back then, Reeve's told People magazine that his secret was a high protein diet and 10 weeks of weight lifting to add two inches to his chest and gain 33 pounds of muscle.
