A small amount of exercise may be surprisingly beneficial

Most people know that exercise is good for the body, especially when trying to get ripped. Now, there's good news for people who may not have time to get in the recommended amount of exercise a week. Although U.S. fitness guidelines suggest 30 minutes a day, five days a week, a new study has found that half of that can still be beneficial.

Time magazine reported that researchers found that 15 minutes of exercise a day can increase a person's life expectancy by three years, and reduce the risk of death by any health-related cause by 14 percent.

"The 30-minute-a-day for five or more days a week has been the golden rule for the last 15 years, but now we found even half that amount could be very beneficial," lead author Dr. Chi-Pang Wen told ABC News. "As we all feel, finding a slot of 15 minutes is much easier than finding a 30-minute slot in most days of the week."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still suggests 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week for adults. Although these findings seem to say that less is still beneficial, it's important to remember that every additional 15 minutes of exercise a day reduces the risk of death by another 4 percent, according to Time.
