Need another cup of coffee? You might want to try exercising instead

It's no secret that getting ripped can help you feel more alert throughout the day. Researchers have long understood that exercise gives people more energy, but before now they were unaware of how working out affects the brain. Now, a study conducted by the University of South Carolina has found that exercise increases organelles in the brain, which may be where these positive effects come from.

Through tests on mice, researchers discovered that rodents that exercised had an increased amount of organelles called mitochondria not only in their muscles, but in their brains as well. Mitochondria cells are responsible for regulating energy, and these results may explain why a person feels more alert after working out.

"These findings could lead to the enhancement of athletic performance through reduced mental and physical fatigue, as well as to the expanded use of exercise as a therapeutic option to attenuate the negative effects of aging, and the treatment and/or prevention of neurological diseases," study authors said.

This study could serve as motivation for all of the people who claim that they are too tired before or after work to exercise. If you can fit in the time to workout, then you may find yourself more energized and able to to do more the rest of the day.
