Woman scores Pro Card after 24 years of getting ripped

Middle-aged individuals - especially women - may feel pessimistic about their ability to build enough muscle to become a bodybuilder. However, an Idaho woman may provide new hope.

Janet Kaufman, 45, was recently profiled in The Lewiston Tribune because she finally earned her International Federation of Bodybuilders Pro Card after spending decades lifting weights to attain her ripped physique.

“I've been trying for that for 24 years, and that was like the monkey that finally got off my back,” she told the news source. “It was almost surreal, because I had been trying so hard for so long”

This past July, Kaufman was a competitor in the National Physique Committee Masters Nationals competition. She came in first in her age group, which is what earned her the Pro Card.

Over40FitnessGuide.com reports that bodybuilding in middle age requires ambition and hard work. That is not to say it's impossible, however, as Kaufman has shown. Additionally, building muscle has been shown to have significant cardiovascular and general health benefits, which may be especially important as you age.

The website recommended that those looking to get ripped in middle aged start out slowly and consult a doctor to be sure they are healthy enough to handle pumping iron.
