Exercising while pregnant may protect offspring from certain conditions

Whether you're looking to get ripped, or simply trying to lose some weight, almost everyone has a reason to exercise. Many believe that because of other conditions, such as pregnancy, they can't work out because it may do more harm than good. This isn't the case, however, and researchers have recently discovered more reasons for pregnant women to exercise.

Researchers from University Hospital Essen in Germany, have found that pregnant women who work out may be protecting their babies from developing neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, later in life.

"No one is resistant to the health benefits of exercise," said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., editor-in-chief of the FASEB Journal, "and this research confirms that reasonable workouts can have a lifetime of benefits for your offspring. Whether you work out at home or go to the gym, you should do it for the sake of your health and that of your offspring."

Pregnant women should consult their doctor before beginning an exercise routine. A medical professional can offer tips on how to work out without risking damage to the baby.
