Don't let the holidays ruin your physique

RipFire to get ripped

Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away, and Christmas is right on its heels. For people who are trying to get ripped, this can be a dangerous time for their workout routine. There's so many desserts, meats and breads present that it can be difficult to find anything healthy to eat at a holiday meal. Recently, United Security Life and Health Insurance Company offered some tips to avoid packing on the pounds this season.

"No one wants to be on a strict diet over the holidays. We all want to enjoy the abundance of traditional favorite foods. This can be achieved with a little planning and keeping-in-mind a few healthy tips," explained Leonard Hertko, M.D.

First, never go to a party hungry. If you eat a little something before it will make it less likely that you'll over-consume later. Next, try not to drink too much alcohol. Along with inhibiting your ability to make health eating choices, alcohol can be filled with empty calories that contribute to weight gain. Finally, try to keep portions small, if you take less at the buffet, you'll end up eating less.

WebMD states that the average American gains one or two pounds during the holiday season that they don't end up getting rid of.
