Harvard researchers show link between happiness and exercise

RipFire to get ripped

For decades there have been many reasons to get off the couch and get ripped, and now there may be one more. Harvard University researchers have found that a lack of exercise mixed with too much TV time can lead to depression in women. They also found that female study participants who worked out were 20 percent less likely to develop the condition than others.

According to the Daily Mail, the study found that exercising for 90 minutes or more a day experienced the most mood-boosting effects, while those who worked out for 10 minutes or less were the most depressed.

"[The finding] adds to the growing body of evidence that physical activity is important to maintain brain health," said study authors, quoted by the news source.

The Mayo Clinic states that exercise may reduce the symptoms of depression, reduce anxiety and improve a person's mood. Working out does this by releasing endorphins in the brain, which are chemicals that allow a person to feel good.

These results suggest that along with helping you look great, exercise may help you feel great, too.
