Take care of your body after a marathon

RipFire to get ripped

People who are serious about wanting to get ripped know that it's a life-long process that requires a great deal of commitment. You not only have to build muscle, but you also have to participate in regular cardiovascular workouts to melt fat.

One group that truly understands what it takes to stay fit are people who run marathons. These people are putting themselves at risk of injury and post-race pain after their epic race, and recently sports medicine experts released tips for how to return to a normal running routine and avoid getting hurt after a marathon.

"The best way to handle almost every sports injury is the RICE method, which stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation," said Brian Halpern, M.D.

The experts reminded runners that eating the day after a race is important to replenish the nutrients your body lost. They also suggested icing muscles often, stretching correctly after a race and waiting five to seven days after a marathon before running again.

When you are ready to exercise, preform low-intensity workouts such as swimming and cycling.
