Individuals who are trying to get ripped should know that diet is an important part of their journey to build muscle. If you're working out all the time, but not eating enough protein and other nutrients, then you're not giving your body the tools it needs to stay fit. Recently, researchers set out to answer the age old question of which is more important, diet or exercise, and came up with some surprising findings.
What the scientists discovered was that regardless of a person's body mass index (BMI), as long as they steadily increase or maintain their fitness levels by exercising regularly, they are actively increasing their lifespan.
"This is good news for people who are physically active but can't seem to lose weight," said Duck-chul Lee, Ph.D., the study's lead researcher and physical activity epidemiologist at the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health in Columbia.
These findings suggest that even if you're not seeing the results you want at the gym, you shouldn't give up just yet. Talk to to a trainer about what else you can do to see more muscle and tone and stay motivated by knowing that you're still increasing your lifespan every time you workout.
