Get ripped to improve your brain health

RipFire to get ripped

Everyone knows that when you get ripped, it benefits your physical appearance, but what about your mental capacity? Recent research conducted at the University of Dublin in Ireland found that exercise may improve a person's ability to remember something.

Researchers showed a set of images to two groups of men, with corresponding names below the pictures. Then, they asked one group to exercise while one remained sedentary. They then showed both sets of men the pictures again, and the men who were active were able to recall more names than the other group,

The scientists discovered, after taking blood samples, that the group that exercised had increased levels of a protein known as brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, which has been shown to promote the health of nerve cells.

Researchers say that these findings could have future implications for people looking to improve their memory.

"These data indicate that both acute and chronic exercise improve medial temporal lobe function concomitant with increased concentrations of BDNF in the [blood], suggesting a possible functional role for this neurotrophic factor in exercise-induced cognitive enhancement in humans," said study authors.
