Getting ripped and getting injured? Research says cold works best for healing

RipFire to get ripped

Once you get ripped, you have to exercise regularly to stay in shape. Fitness is a long journey that is never really completed, and working hard to stay in shape can sometimes lead to injuries. Few people understand this better than professional athletes, whose career can often depend on their ability to recover from a sports-related injury.

Recently, researchers from the National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance in Paris set out to determine the most effective method for recovering from a sports injury. What they discovered was that exposing runners to extreme cold through cryotherapy seemed to enhance their ability to recover from an exercise-related injury.

According to JointHealing.com, cryotherapy usually comes in the form of ice bags or ice packs. The website explained why this process may benefit an injury.

"Cold also decreases the activity of cells to reduce swelling and internal bleeding at the site of acute injury. Cooling the deep tissue also reduces muscle spasm by reducing the muscle's ability to maintain a contraction (contractility)," according to the news source.
