While many people may want to get ripped, some may be in need of a little extra motivation at the end of a long day to go to the gym. Recently, Reuters reported on a new iPhone app that aims to give individuals the incentive they need to power through their daily workout.
The app, called GymPact, charges individuals a fee for every time they do not follow through on a gym commitment.
"We decided to motivate people by having money on the line, rather than giving them money, which is a very radical departure from other motivational apps and programs," explained Yifan Zhang, GymPact's co-founder and CEO, quoted by the news source.
When a person downloads the app, they state the number of times each week they intend to go to the gym, and the amount of money they can be charged if they do not follow through. Users must "check-in" to the gym when they go, and the money that is collected is then re-distriubted to users who did reach their weekly goal. The company pays 50 cents to a dollar for every workout.
DigitalTrends.com suggests that this may be a good way to keep individuals committed to their New Year's resolutions, which many people give up on by the third week of January.
