Rowing towards a healthy heart

RipFire to get ripped

When you're trying to get ripped, it's important to switch up the routine so your don't get bored and give up. Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported on an exercise that is resulting in increased muscle tone and less weight for the people who are participating. The best part? Almost anyone can do it - and there's no running required.

The workout the news source detailed is indoor rowing, and although it is not a new trend it continues to grow in popularity. The news source followed one man who was at a high risk of a heart attack and brought himself down to a healthy weight through using rowing machines.

"The Indo-Row machines - which have water-filled flywheels intended to replicate an on-water experience - are mounted with monitors that measure each rower's miles per hour and calories burned, which helps motivate Mr. Rubens," said Claire Martin of the Wall Street Journal.

According to Everyday Health, a 150 pound person can burn 200 calories during 30 minutes of rowing. This exercise is a good alternative for people who avoid the treadmill but still want to improve their heart health through cardiovascular exercise.
