People who are committed to trying to get ripped are probably used to working out. Many others, however, may be planning on making 2012 the year that they finally start to exercise. Recently, the Tampa Bay Times offered some suggestions for people who are just starting out on their fitness journey.
First, you need to think of exercise not as a special event, but as a routine like brushing your teeth or showering. Next, they said you should develop a routine that involves a variety of different exercises each time you hit the gym.
"Develop a basic maintenance plan that you can stick with, then turn up the heat if you have something special, like a ski trip, that you want to get ready for," said Jeff Bullock, a multisport athlete and personal trainer, quoted by the news source.
The Mayo Clinic suggests that before starting an exercise program, assess where you currently are in terms of fitness. This means monitoring your pulse rate before and after you walk a mile, seeing how many push-ups you can do and recording your body mass index (BMI).
