Wintertime can offer athletes a good time to switch up their get ripped routine. For example, Los Angeles' local ABC affiliate recently reported on how a local ice rink is offering fitness classes for people who are interested in building muscle while lacing up their skates.
While many people think that skating can offer an opportunity to get in a little bit of light cardio, there's apparently a lot more to it.
"You're going to be doing some plie squats, downward dogs, a lot yoga flow, ballet-inspired booty exercises, you name it," said trainer Kit Rich, quoted by the news source. "This really spices it up, you're constantly trying new things, your body tones up faster, you see results a lot faster."
SkatingFitness.com states that the activity helps build muscle in the quadriceps and hamstrings in your legs. The website also added that skating can increase endurance if you make a commitment to maintaining a constant and steady pace for a period of time without stopping.
